Plan for quality power supply to farm sector in AP

THE State Government plans to ensure quality supply of power without interruption to the farm sector during kharif season.

The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who reviewed the power sector on Tuesday, expressed happiness over the unprecedented inflows into the major hydel reservoirs, Srisailam, Nagarjuna Sagar, which have created a unique record of daily hydel generation of 53.26 million units on August 5. This is the highest since inception. The hydel generation is expected to exceed APERC target of 6000 MUs.

According to a press release, about Rs 975.31 crore dues from AP Transco would be paid to APGENCO in four annual instalments by raising bonds and to meet the equity required by obtaining required orders from the Government. The total requirement of equity funds for the projects already in pipeline is Rs 2,661 crore.

The Chairman and Managing Director of AP Transco, Mrs Rachel Chatterjee, said that 1,09,479 pumpsets have already been converted to high voltage distribution system (HVDS) at a cost of Rs 295 crore in the State with REC assistance covering all districts up to the end of March 2004.

In the first phase, HVDS is programmed to be implemented in seven districts covering 10,96,157 (46.68 per cent of total existing pumpsets) at a cost of Rs 3,032 crore and completed in next three years. The detailed project reports (DPRs) for Rs 790 crore have been submitted to REC, she said.

Under Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojna, it is proposed to electrify the balance 45,28,025 rural households in next three years, 9,283 habitations in next two years, and augment backbone network, Mrs Chatterjee said. The project outlay is Rs 1,209.70 crore.
