New British Deputy High Commissioner for South India

MR Mike Connor is the new British Deputy High Commissioner in South India.

According to a press release, Mr Connor takes up his posting in Chennai following a five-year secondment from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to the Department of Trade and Industry in London, where he headed the South Asia Unit and the India team in UK Trade and Investment (UKTI).

UKTI is a Government organisation that supports UK companies trade internationally Quoting Mr Connor, the release said that bilateral trade between the UK and India, particularly South India, was flourishing. The visa application centres in Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Kochi offer the service across the South and student visas issue has gone up ten-fold over the past decade. Over 5,500 visas were issued in 2004 alone.
