Private bus strike called off in Kerala

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The four-day-old strike by private bus operators in the State was called off on Saturday following talks held between bus operators and the Transport Minister, Mr N. Sakthan.

Private buses have been off the road since Wednesday last in response to a strike call given by the Kerala Private Bus Operators Coordination Committee. The bus owners had listed a number of demands including a bus fare hike, revision of student concession and reduction of sales tax rate on diesel.

At Saturday's meeting, it was decided that the Transport Commissioner would hold discussions with representatives of bus operators prior to finalising his report. The Minister said the Government would hold further discussions with them after getting the report.
