Moderate fall in rubber prices

Our Correspondent

Kottayam , Aug. 17

THE bearish international markets and fears of improvement in domestic arrivals with the start of the peak production season hammered the physical rubber prices on Wednesday.

The main marketing centres experienced moderate losses in all grades, as there were no quantity buyers even at the quoted rates. Most of the traders rushed to sell their stock predicting further decline in prices while sheet rubber RSS 4 declined to Rs 59 and Rs 59.25 from Rs 59.50 and Rs 59.75 a kg, respectively at Kottayam and Kochi. The volumes were dull.

The rubber futures lost heavily recording the September delivery contract at Rs 58.10 (59.55), October Rs 56.11 (57.45) and November at Rs 55.10 (56.95) per kg for RSS 4. The transactions totalled at 2129 lots, trading 1726 lots in September, 296 lots in October and 107 lots in November till mid-session.

Spot rubber prices a kg were: RSS-4: 59 (59.50); RSS-5: 55 (55.50); ungraded: 52.50 (53.50); ISNR 20: 54.50 (55); and latex 60 per cent: 37.50 (38).
