Rubber prices weaken further

Our Correspondent

Kottayam , Aug 18

SPOT rubber rates weakened further on Thursday. Panic selling from dealers and growers kept the prices under immense pressure as buyers turned almost inactive waiting for the market to stabilise at lower levels.

Scattered covering purchases were not sufficient to rescue sheet rubber from falling freely on quantity offers but the transactions were in an extremely low key.

Sheet rubber RSS 4 closed sharply down at Rs 57.50 against Rs 59.00 a kg after hitting an intraday low at Rs 67.00 while the other grades except latex lost on strong buyer resistance.

The NMCE September contract was quoted at Rs 56.85 (Rs 57.40), October at Rs 55.11 (Rs 55.46), November at Rs 54.90 (Rs 55.26) and December contract at Rs 55.25 (Rs 60.17) per kg for RSS 4.

The volumes improved to 3,330 lots, recording 2378 lots in September, 650 lots in October 227 lots in November and 75 lots in December till mid-session.

At Bangkok, RSS 3 moved down to Rs 66.68 from Rs 67.52 a kg on Wednesday.

The spot rubber prices per kg were RSS-4: Rs 57.50 (Rs 59); RSS-5: Rs 54.50 (Rs 55); ungraded: Rs 52.00 (Rs 52.50); ISNR 20: Rs 54.00 (Rs 54.50) and Latex 60 per cent: Rs 37.50 (Rs 37.50).
