IATO national meet in Kochi from Aug 26

THE 21st national convention of the Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) will be held in Kochi from August 26-29.

The theme of this year's convention is `Incredible boom - Incredible challenges'.

The convention will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister, Mr Oommen Chandy, according to Mr E.M. Najeeb, Chairman of IATO Kerala Chapter.

Mr Najeeb also said that international tourist arrivals had shown a phenomenal growth of 18.6 per cent for the period between January and June this year. In order to sustain this boom and to achieve the anticipated growth of 10 million tourists by 2010, the country needed to examine the challenges and the threats lying ahead for the tourism industry.

About 800 tourism professionals will participate in the convention and experts will speak on various topics such as `Building infrastructure - key to sustaining boom', `Open skies - choked grounds' and `Tourism of the future'.

The business sessions will be attended by, among others, Mr Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of Gujarat; Mr K.C. Venugopal, State Tourism Mini- ster; Dr Geeta Reddy, Tourism Minister of Andhra Pradesh; and Mr Amitabh Kant, Joint Secretary for Tourism.
