India, Japan meet today on co-operation in ICT

INDIA and Japan would sign a joint statement for bilateral co-operation in communications and IT tomorrow, under which the two sides would seek to develop joint proposals in R&D, HRD, e-governance, ITES, e-commerce, and rural telecommunication.

The first meeting of the India-Japan ICT Ministerial Forum would be held tomorrow with Mr Dayanidhi Maran, Minister of Communications & IT, and Mr Taro Aso, Minister of Internal affairs and Communications of Japan, leading their delegations, an official release said.

The meet would look at opportunities for increasing ties in the sectors of IT and telecommunications.

The Japanese delegation would comprise over 100 members while the Indian delegation would include members from leading Indian ICT companies, Government, and R&D agencies.

The India-Japan ICT Ministerial Forum is the outcome of a programme of co-operation comprising eight-fold initiatives chalked out by the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, and his Japanese counterpart, Mr Junichiro Koizumi.The ICT Forum would also constitute industry-led working groups on areas of broadband, mobile communications, e-governance, information security, R&D, and ubiquitous computing.

The second part of the session of the India-Japan ICT forum would see presentations by representatives of both Indian and Japanese industries.
