Mumbai , Aug 24

THE National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) today made a pilot launch of its competence assessment programme for potential employees in the BPO industry.

Called NAC, short for Nasscom Assessment of Competence, it will be an industry standard assessment and certification programme. It aims to ensure the transformation of a "trainable" workforce into an "employable workforce", said a statement from Nasscom.

The pilot programme will run for three months in three cities - the National Capital Region, Mumbai and Bangalore. Around 36 key ITES-BPO companies and nearly 15,000 graduates will participate, said the statement.

One of Nasscom's key goals is to catalyse the expansion of the English speaking manpower pool and ensure that the ITES-BPO talent resources are equipped with industry relevant skill-sets.

In line with this rationale, Nasscom, alongwith Hewitt Associates and industry players, through the NAC will deploy the Assessment and Certification framework to ensure a steady supply of quality ITES-BPO professionals to meet the present and future requirements of the industry.

The programme will test the aptitude of a candidate on different skill sets. This will include listening and keyboard skills, verbal ability, spoken English, comprehension and writing ability, office software usage, numerical and analytical skills, and concentration and accuracy.

After completion of the pilot programme, Nasscom will announce the national roll-out of NAC.

Nasscom is also encouraging State Governments to commit to the NAC to improve their employment generation, attract serious investors for the ITES-BPO sector and build a link between education and employability.
