Rubber rises on fresh purchases

THE domestic physical rubber rates recorded all-round improvement on fresh buying and short covering. According to sources, a leading tyre company bought sheet rubber even up to Rs 55.75 a kg on Thursday.

Moderate buying from the north Indian and general rubber goods sectors was also visible in the main marketing centres. RSS 4 improved to Rs 55.50 against Rs 55.00 a kg on Wednesday.

The futures market was almost steady on Thursday. The September contract was quoted at Rs 56.20 (56.23), October at Rs 55.32 (55.34), November at Rs 55.00 (54.85) and December contract at Rs 55.00 (55.07) a kg for RSS 4.

The transactions were dull at 1,146 lots, trading 883 lots in September, 181 lots in October, 43 lots in November and 39 lots in December till mid session.

The September futures for RSS 3 closed at 173.6 yen against 173.3 yen at TOCOM. The same grade improved marginally to Rs 67.20 from Rs 67.10 a kg at Bangkok.

The per kg rubber prices are as follows: RSS-4: Rs 55.50 (55); RSS-5: Rs 53.50 (53); ungraded: Rs 50.50 (50); ISNR 20: Rs 52.50 (52); and latex 60%: Rs 38 (37.50).
