Telecommunications Nokia to set up global network centre in India Our Bureau
New Delhi , Aug. 25 FINNISH telecom major Nokia announced today that it plans to open its first global Networks Operation Centre (NOC) in India by the end of the year. The centre will perform network operation tasks for selected operators in the Asia-Pacific region as well as Europe, West Asia and Africa, as part of Nokia's managed services offering. The location of the site, which will initially employ up to 100 people, will be unveiled at a later date. Though Nokia has a number of NOCs in other countries this will be the first centre, which will cater to customers in countries other than where it is located. Announcing the new initiative, Mr Simon Beresford-Wylie, Executive Vice-President and General Manager, Networks, said, "Given Nokia's strong commitment to its expanding services business, plus the positive experience it has enjoyed in India as both a growth and services market, the decision to locate the operation centre in India was an easy one to make." The announcement was made during the Nokia Focus on India investor meet held here today.
