Bangalore Management Association for good mechanism to rate B-schools

THE Bangalore Management Association (BMA) is not averse to evolving a mechanism for rating business schools but would wait till a good mechanism is evolved to improve the standards of management education in the State.

It had already brought out a book on the qualitative and quantitative aspects to be adopted for producing good managers.

Stating this at a press conference here on Thursday, the BMA President, Mr Ramanand Kenny, and its Executive Director, Capt. Mani, said the association along with its parent body, All India Management Association (AIMA), were making constant efforts to address the issue through interactions with the business schools and industry.

In another initiative, BMA has announced an essay contest on the theme `India emerging — An economic resurgency' for the business schools students. The contestants, who would be given cash prizes, could make a presentation of their perceptions at the annual convention of BMA, which is scheduled to be held here on September 9 and 10.

The convention will be addressed by the heads of leading corporates, including Mr Ashok Soota, Chairman and CEO, Mindtree Consulting; Capt. Gopinath, Managing Director of Air Deccan; and Dr S. Narayanan, former revenue secretary. It will focus on India's emergence as an economic giant covering areas of supply chain management and logistics, service sector, media and entertainment.

Capt. Mani also informed that Hyderabad would host the annual AIMA convention on September 23 and 24. The two-day convention will be inaugurated by the Defence Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee. Mr Anil Ambani, Chairman of Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Enterprises, will be the key speaker. Among the prominent CEOs to address the convention are Mr B. Ramalinga Raju, Chairman of Satyam Computers Services, Mr Arun Maira, Chairman of Boston Consulting (India) Pvt. Ltd and Mr Sunil Alagh, AIMA President.
