Six bidders submit RFQ for Tuticorin port project

Our Bureau

Chennai , Aug. 26

SIX bidders have submitted their RFQ (request for qualification) applications for developing the eighth berth at Tuticorin port into a container terminal on build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis.

The bidders are: Chettinad Logistics Pvt Ltd, Chennai in consortium with South India Corporation; PSA Sical Terminals Ltd, Tuticorin (a joint venture of PSA India Ltd, South India Corporation (Agencies) and Mr S. Chandra Das); Afcons Infrastructure in consortium with United Linear Agencies; ABG Heavy Industries; Larsen & Toubro; and Oceanic Transport.

The existing private container terminal, operated by PSA Sical, can handle up to 5 lakh TEUs (twenty foot equivalent units) even after providing additional equipment. However, the port's container throughput is likely to be much more in future, and hence there is a need for another container terminal, according to an earlier press release issued by the Tuticorin Port Trust.
