In troubled waters

A man tries to eke out a living by catching stray fish from a river in Triprayar near Thrissur. The number of unemployed persons in the State has shown an increase of about 10 lakh, an eight per cent rise in the 1998-2003 period. The number varied from 34.3 per cent in Thiruvananthapuram to 9.6 per cent in Idukki, according to a study conducted by the Centre for Development Studies.
