Chennai , Aug. 29

SMALL Industries Service Institute (SISI), a promotional organisation working under the Ministry of Small Scale Industries, will organise a national exhibition-cum-buyer-seller meet on October 28 and 29 at the Chennai Trade Centre.

Mr G.M. Ambhore, Director, SISI, said public sector undertakings such as the Defence, the Railways and the Indian Space Research Organisation outsourced much of their requirement of components and services.

He said this was a great opportunity for the small and medium scale industries. Citing an example, Mr Ambhore said the outsourcing requirement of the Integral Coach Factory is about Rs 400 crore.

SISI recently organised a buyer seller meet to facilitate small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Mr Ambhore said most of the participants in this meet were from the North. He hoped the exhibition would encourage more industries from the South to take part.

The objective of the meet is to bring together SMEs and large industrial houses and government departments. The exhibition will provide marketing opportunities for SMEs. It would also help the buyers identify competitive vendors. The exhibition will also showcase the collective working of small entrepreneurs as consortia or clusters.

The sectors that will be covered include auto components, electrical, electronics, general engineering, information technology, leather, plastic and rubber, chemical and testing labs.

SISI is also launching a portal that will help small-scale industries (SSIs) market their products to a wider audience. About 7,000 registered SSIs will be listed on this site.
