SBI to collect Central excise, service tax in Mangalore

THE Union Government has authorised State Bank of India to collect central excise and service tax in Mangalore Commissionerate of Central Excise.

Addressing newspersons here on Wednesday, Mr K. Venkatachalapathy, Assistant General Manager, SBI, said that the bank has identified 15 branches in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts for this purpose.

They are: Mangalore Main, Mallikatta, Lalbagh, Hampankatta, Panambur, B.C. Road, Puttur, Moodbidri, Belthangady and Mangalore Commercial branches in Dakshina Kannada district; Udupi and Udupi Treasury branches in Udupi district; and Karwar, Bhatkal and Sirsi branches in Uttara Kannada district. These branches will offer the facility from September 1.

The bank is also planning to provide e-payment facility in respect of central excise and service tax collection, he said.

Apart from this, the bank is thinking of opening dedicated counters in select branches for doing government business.

Around 1,750 branches of the bank are networked in the country, and the number will be taken to 4,000 by the end of the current financial year, he added.
