Rubber prices remain flat

Our Correspondent

Kottayam , Sept. 2

THE domestic spot rubber remained almost flat on Friday. While sheet rubber RSS 4 improved by 50 paise to Rs 58 a kg at Kottayam, guided by the bullish international markets, it closed flat at Kochi.

According to sources, the absence of quantity sellers kept the transaction in low key. Overnight rains continued to disrupt the tapping process.

Arrivals declined slightly, putting pressure on the buyers from major sectors and they were reported to be active in the main marketing centres.

The NMCE rubber futures turned better after a positive TOCOM and Osaka closing. The September contract quoted at Rs 59.81 (59.05), October at Rs 58.95 (58.16), November at Rs 58.57 (57.57) and December contract at Rs 58.50 (57.72) per kg for RSS 4. At Bangkok, RSS 3 improved to Rs 71.05 from Rs 70.35 a kg on Thursday. The spot rubber rates per kg were: RSS-4 Rs 58 (Rs 57.50); RSS-5 Rs 54.50 (Rs 54.50); ungraded Rs 53 (Rs 53); ISNR 20 Rs 54 (Rs 54); and latex 60% Rs 38.50 (Rs 38.50).
