Kolkata , Sept. 5

UCO Bank will host this year's bankers' conference - BANKCON 2005.

The conference, to be held here on November 11 and 12, will be inaugurated by the Union Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram.

Mr V. Sridar, Chairman and Managing Director of UCO Bank, told Business Line that the theme of this year's conference would be: Indian Banking: Opportunities At The Bottom of the Pyramid.

Leading bankers, including the RBI 0Governor and other senior officials of the central bank and others would attend the conference. UCO Bank would be hosting this conference after many years, he said.

Meanwhile, UCO Bank, according to Mr Sridar, is close to finalising the selection of the vendor for the implementation of the core-banking solution (CBS).

"By March 31, 2006, we would like CBS to be in place in at least 25 of our key branches," he said, expressing hope that the cost of implementation would be much less than the original estimate of Rs 170 crore or so. UCO Bank has more than 1,700 branches across the country. Mr Sridar said the bank would launch anywhere banking in 250 of its branches by next month.

The bank's tie-up with State Bank of India and MITR would enable its ATM card-holders to access as many as 8,200 ATMs all over the country - 5,400 of SBI and another 2,800 of five other banks, all partners in the MITR consortium.

The exercise on the organisational restructuring of UCO would start within less than a month.

Boston Consulting had been selected as the consultant in this regard, he added.
