A plantation worker plucking tea leaves in an estate near Kalpetta in Kerala's Wayanad district. Though tea production during January-July increased by 11.5 per cent to 312.75 million kg (mkg) compared with the corresponding period last year, exports and prices at the auctions have declined. Exports during the period dipped 9.4 mkg to 75.2 mkg, while the average price has slid to Rs 57.69 a kg from Rs 59.62 a year ago.
