Ofen brings Swiss baking technique to Hyderabad

Hyderabad , Sept. 8

IF enterprise is all about new ideas and doing things differently, here is one such illustrative case of how to bake breads innovatively.

"We have the best of everything - automotives, hotels, food items including authentic Biryani. Then why not best breads?" questions Ms Mukti K. Bosco, the Managing Director of Ofen.

This very basic thought led the Boscos to import a Swiss baking machine that helps bake breads differently. Apart from baking in new ways, the couple have created Ofen, an upmarket bakery in the posh Banjara Hills area.

Having seen through the early phase of introducing new concepts and innovative ways of making bread varieties, Ofen is now looking at taking the route of franchisees to locate in other centres in the country. It has recently set up a centre in Deloitte and yet another at Road 56 here.

Ms Mukti Bosco, a practising healthcare professional and wife of former CEO of Intelligroup Asia, Mr Malapatti Bosco, told Business Line, "We hit upon this idea to have a world-class bakery that gives best bread during our tour to Switzerland. With a large number of professionals across industry verticals such as IT, telecom and other areas, we are just here to provide this authentic Swiss experience."

The baking wagon was planned and built by the Swiss army in mid-80s. Exemplifying engineering excellence, it hosts a complete bakery, including a generator. These wagons are no longer in use and now sold to others. It is multi-fuel compatible, with a burner that runs on liquid gas or coal. Knowing Swiss well, they ensure there is no pollution.

"Surely, we are relatively costlier then other bakeries around, but this is because what we offer is also different, conforming to Swiss standards of the ingredients we use. Though we also cater to general users, the focus is on providing best products," she explained.

"The Ofen features a café lounge, a Wi-fi enabled facilities for surfers, and a kitchen that can be seen through to get a flair of what is being baked. We expect to firm up plans and reach out to other locations within the next three or four months. Enquiries are pouring in from centres. We will finalise franchisees once we firm up the revenue model," she explained.
