Advertising Ram Poddar is ASCI Chairman Our Bureau
Mumbai , Sept 12 THE Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) at the Board meeting held on September 8 unanimously elected Mr Ram Poddar (Chairman, The Tobacco Institute of India) as Chairman of the advertising body. As a member of the Board of Governors since November 1998, he has provided active support to the self-regulation in advertising movement, said a press release. Besides being a Vice-President, Indian Chamber of Commerce, he is on the governing bodies of the Indian Council of Arbitration and International Chamber of Commerce and is also a member of various committees of FICCI and CII. Mr Bharat Puri, Managing Director, Cadbury (India) Ltd, was elected Vice-Chairman, and Mr Arun Adhikari, Managing Director, HPC, HLL, has been appointed the Honorary Treasurer. The other members of the new Board of Governors are: Advertisers: Mr Rajiv Dube (Tata Motors), Mr Shantanu Khosla (P&G Hygiene and Health Care) Media: Mr Bhaskar Das (Bennett Coleman & Co), Mr Vikram Kaushik (Space TV), Mr G. Krishnan (TV Today), Mr N. Murali (Kasturi & Sons) Ad. Agencies: Mr Sam Balsara (Madison), Mr Madhukar Kamath (Mudra), Mr Pranesh Misra (Lintas), Mr Arvind Sharma (Leo Burnett). Allied Professions: Mr Dilip Cherian (Perfect Relations), Mr Dhananjay Keskar (ICFAI Business School), Mr Partha Rakshit (AC Nielsen Research Services). During the year 2004-05, the Consumer Complaints Council of the ASCI upheld 66 per cent of the 157 complaints received, and over 72 per cent of ASCI's rulings were complied with by the advertising industry. The Council is represented on three Committees notified by three separate Ministries, through which it has been able to influence government's policy making on advertising content and to obtain support for self-regulation in advertising.
