Radio/TV Worldspace plans weather forecast for fishermen Our Bureau
Bangalore , Sept. 14 SATELLITE-based radio service provider WorldSpace is working with the Department of Science & Technology on a proposal to give weather related information to fishermen. Mr Andy Ras-Work, Washington-based COO of the satellite audio pioneer, said the plan was still in an early stage and the details were being worked out. "We are working with the Government of India on the social angle, to provide information to specific audiences. Providing weather data to fishermen is one vision, besides news service distribution," said Mr Ras-Work on the sidelines of a news conference here today. The company, which recently got itself listed on the Nasdaq, now offers 40 channels for a wide audience. It was focussing on expanding its base through promotions targeted at youth. It had opened `experience lounges' in Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad. On another front, it had tied up with DNA Networks to bring five London pop stars to Bangalore under the banner Brit Masala. The concert will be held at Art Village on September 25. Art Village itself is a three-day event to showcase artisans, music and culture.
