Outlook Godrej appliances unit aims at Rs 750-cr turnover Our Bureau
Kolkata , Sept. 17 THE appliances division of Godrej & Boyce Mfg Co Ltd hopes to generate a turnover of Rs 750 crore in the current year. In 2004-05, appliances sales contributed Rs 550 crore to the company's turnover. Addressing a news conference held here on Friday to announce special offers for the ensuing festival season, Mr Kamal Nandi, Vice-President (Sales), Appliances Division, Godrej & Boyce, said the "Puja Bonus" offer provided for cash discounts on the purchase of every Godrej appliance. On purchase of every product, customers would be given a coupon that looks like a currency note. Depending upon the denomination mentioned in the coupon, the customers can avail themselves of a cash discount of the amount mentioned on the coupon. Besides, they would be presented with a discount coupon of Rs 1,000 that can be used during their next purchase. Mr Nandi said the appliances division has earmarked Rs 3 crore for branding and promotion initiatives in the festival season between now and November 15. During this period, Godrej's appliances sales across the country were expected to touch Rs 200 crore. During the festival season last year, the sales touched Rs 150 crore. According to him, besides attempting to augment market share in the refrigerator segment by launching products at different price points, Godrej had lately introduced microwaves and DVD players, thereby adding to its product portfolio that includes refrigerators, washing machines and air-conditioners. While the newly introduced products were at present being manufactured under arrangement with third parties, setting up the company's own manufacturing facility at a later stage would be considered when volumes pick up, Mr Nandi said.
