Employment Variety - Events `Lack of career growth at the crux of attrition among youth' Our Bureau
Chennai , Sept. 19 MR Ganesh Chella, CEO of strategic HR consulting firm, Totus Consulting Pvt Ltd, will deliver the inaugural BL Club lecture on `The new employment arrangement and career development - oxymoron or opportunity,' at the Department of Management Studies, St Joseph's College of Engineering here on Tuesday. The emergence of a whole host of new businesses in India has created unprecedented career opportunities. With these opportunities has come the unintended consequence of largescale attrition. However, Mr Chella's talk to the students of St. Joseph's will explain that most people have got the situation wrong by defining attrition as the problem. In reality, attrition is only the symptom. The problem is actually the increasingly growing concern about "lack of career development opportunities" in the minds of young professionals, which is provoking them to keep searching for that dream opportunity. As a first step, organisations need to sit up and recognise that this is indeed the problem. "They need to then diagnose what the causes are before they can get to solve them," says Mr Chella. The new employment arrangement, he says, is one of the biggest causes for the lack of career opportunities. Given this reality, while organisations struggle to find solutions, it is equally important for current and potential employees to take charge of the situation and get started with realistic expectations to begin with. This would be the crux of Mr Chella's talk.
