Credit Market Industry & Economy - Environment Bank of Maharashtra offers loan plans for `green' cause Our Bureau
Mumbai , Sept. 20 BANK of Maharashtra has announced two loan schemes to promote the use of eco-friendly products to commemorate the International Ozone Day and the 71st Foundation Day of the bank which was on September 16. As per the scheme, the rate of interest on loans for purchasing renewable energy equipment will be 0.5 per cent less than the normal prime lending rate of 10.75 per cent. Mr S.C. Basu, Chairman and Managing Director, Bank of Maharashtra, announced that the bank had selected Shetphalgade village, in Pune district, to be developed as an example of an eco-friendly village. Mahabank Agriculture Research and Rural Development Foundation (MARDEF), a trust formed by the bank, will work with the villagers to implement eco-friendly measures such as soak pit, tree plantation and organic farming. The bank will also help in financing solar water heaters, solar light systems, gobar gas plants, vermi-compost and plantation of jatropha, the release said.
