Moderate rise in rubber prices

Our Correspondent

Kottayam , Sept. 21

SHEET rubber RSS 4 improved to Rs 60 from Rs 59.75 a kg as certain tyre companies came forward to procure the raw material while other grades including latex were steady on buyers' resistance.

Most of the buyers preferred to remain on the sidelines as they were not prepared to offer better quotes expecting the prices to soften towards October. According to an analyst, international and domestic production will improve soon which might keep the prices subdued till the end of December.

The rubber futures maintained the firm trend in NMCE quoting the October contract at Rs 61 (60.69), November Rs 59.49 (59.17), December Rs 59.50 (59.36) and January contract at Rs 59.63 (59.40) per kg for RSS 4.

The volumes till mid-session totalled 646 lots; trading 416 lots in October, 111 in November, 73 in December and 46 lots in January.

RSS 3 improved to Rs 75.33 from Rs 75.22 a kg at Bangkok and the October futures at TOCOM closed better at 189.3 yen against 187.9 yen a kg on Tuesday.

The rubber prices per kg on Wednesday are as follows: RSS-4: 60 (59.75);

RSS-5: 58 (58); ungraded: 55.50 (55.50); ISNR 20: 59 (59); and latex 60%: 40 (40).
