TO kick-start the second phase of FM radio privatisation, the Government has invited pre-qualification bids from private companies.
Private operators have been given time till November 7 for submitting their tenders and qualified parties would then be invited to participate in the financial bidding process. The Government will charge an application fee of Rs 10,000.
In the tender document the Government has clarified that every applicant and its related entities shall be allowed to bid for only one channel per city. Also, the total number of channels allocated to an applicant and its related entities shall not exceed 15 per cent of the total channels on offer. If applicant and its related entities are allotted more number of channels, the applicant would at its own discretion select and surrender the excess frequencies.
The Government has further clarified that channels allotted to the subsidiary company, holding company, companies with the same management or Inter-Connected Undertakings would be considered while calculating the 15 per cent limit.
Also, for existing licence holders under Phase-I, the licence(s) held by them under Phase-I shall be taken into consideration for calculating the 15 per cent limit.
