Govt sets up task force for accreditation of hospitals

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Sept. 21

THE Government on Wednesday announced the formation of a task force consisting of experts drawn from the Ministries of Health and Family Welfare, Tourism, Railways, External Affairs, and Civil Aviation, and the Director-General of Health Services to suggest policy measures and norms for the National Accreditation Board to provide accreditation to all public and private hospitals to ensure quality and timely health services.

Announcing this at a conference on `Health Tourism: The Great Indian Advantage', organised by Assocham, the Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr Anbumani Ramadoss, said that the UPA Government would also come out with a Clinical Establishment Act within 18 months to make sure that fair and quality health services are provided to all concerned.

The Minister also announced that his Ministry is in close co-ordination with the Ministry of External Affairs to take a policy decision so that `medical visas', which are issued to overseas patients seeking medical facilities in India, are granted within a month or even less time to all incoming overseas patients not only from neighbouring areas but from the European Union and the US as well.
