Farm credit `Widen scope of crop scheme' Our Correspondent
Madurai , Sept. 22 THE Tamilnadu Farmers Association, at its meeting held here, observed that the crop protection scheme implemented in the State gave them only minimum benefits, and urged the Government to expand the scope of the scheme so that full benefits could be derivedl. While welcoming the waiving of the outstanding interest by the State Government, they had pointed out that farmers faced hurdles in carrying on the cultivation since the co-operative banks are not sanctioning fresh loans. They have demanded that the process be expedited without any preset conditions. On the fixation of a price of Rs 1,014 per tonne for sugarcane, the association has pointed out that this might benefit only those who supply sugarcane to public sector sugar mills.
