TAKE MORE LOCALS: Activists of the Kannada Rakshana Vedike staging a demonstration in front of Infosys Technologies office in Bangalore on Tuesday. G.R.N. Somashekar
Bangalore , Sept. 27 ACTIVISTS of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, a forum of pro-Kannada organisations, staged a symbolic protest in front of Infosys Technologies Ltd's headquarters seeking more jobs for locals in the IT sector. They wanted Infosys to give more opportunity for the meritorious students from the State during campus recruitment. They also wanted the company to consider more locals for non-IT jobs in the company's departments such as security, travel and canteen among others. An Infosys spokesperson said the company's stand on the issue has been made clear by the Chairman and Chief Mentor, Mr N.R. Narayana Murthy, during the recent meeting with the Karnataka Chief Minister, Mr N. Dharam Singh. Mr Murthy had then said that the company, which served clients mainly from the developed world, had to resort to a fair route of selecting meritorious candidates from the country to ensure customer loyalty. The company, Mr Murthy had said, would ensure that the candidates from all parts of Karnataka were provided an opportunity. "We have started the largest centre in Mysore and also opened one in Mangalore, showing our commitment to Karnataka. We will ensure that Karnataka people are not at a disadvantage," he had said then.
