`Focus more on customised tools'

Vimala Vasan

Abu Dhabi , Oct. 2

INDIAN IT firms should focus more on developing customised products such as Arabic software to gain a bigger market share of the huge IT products and services market in the Gulf and West Asia, said Mr Nalin Kohli, Chairman, Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council, ESC.

Mr Kohli, who led a large delegation of ESC members to Gitex Dubai 2005, which ended over the weekend, told Business Line in an interview there was very strong business potential for Indian IT companies in this region. Currently, participating Indian companies at Gitex were marketing regular rather than region-specific products and services, he said.

Mr Kohli indicated that in view of the strong interest received by participating companies, ESC, which has 2,300 members, plans to increase participation at the next Gitex in Dubai to around 80 Indian firms. He added the infrastructure and facilities offered at Gitex Dubai were on a par with similar shows in the US and Europe.

Micro World Tech plans: MicroWorld Technologies , which has developed real-time anti-virus and content security software eScan and MailScan, plans to set up an office in Saudi Arabia by the end of the year. The Mumbai headquartered company, with offices in the US and Germany, plans to launch an Arabic version of its software early next year, Mr Nazir Kazi, Head of International Operations, for West Asia and Africa told Business Line.
