Mumbai , Oct. 6 THE Centre on Thursday decided to extend the validity of September month's free sale quota (FSQ) of sugar mills in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Karnataka till October 15. The extension has been granted to those mills which could not lift and dispatch their allotted free sale quota for the last month, trade sources said. "Free sale quota of about 70,000 tonnes are still un-lifted in these States. The respective State federations have requested the Government for extension even for the current month also to clear their mills' backlog of un-lifted quota," a local miller said. Last month sugar factories in Maharashtra had requested the Centre for 10 days' extension permission was granted to sell free sale sugar till September 10. The Government released 12 lakh tonnes for September. The Centre has released 37 lakh tonnes of sugar as quota for indigenous free sale for the October-December quarter. The quota includes 14 lakh tonnes for October, 12 lakh tonnes (November) and 11 lakh tonnes (December).
