BANGALORE: Healthscribe, a medical transcription company, has been acquired by Spheris in an all-cash deal for an undisclosed amount.

Spheris, which is the world's second largest medical transcription company, has also announced the launch of a new facility at Coimbatore where it expects to ramp up headcount from 300 people to 1,000 by the end of 2006.

The company also expects its total presence in India to touch 3,000 people through the acquisition and new hires.

According to Mr Suresh Nair, CEO and MD of Healthscribe, the new entity is called Spheris India Pvt Ltd.
