Exports & Imports Import of sensitive items down 5.4 pc in April-July Our Bureau
New Delhi , Oct. 6 THE total import of sensitive items in the first four months of the current fiscal has declined by 5.4 per cent to Rs 4,864 crore as against a level of Rs 5,143 crore in the same period last year. Gross imports of all commodities during April-July 2005 stood at Rs 1,83,537 crore as compared to Rs 1,39,364 crore in the same period of last year. An official release issued by the commerce ministry said that imports of edible oil, milk and milk products and rubber had shown a decline at broad group level during the period. It also said that imports of fruits and vegetables, cotton and silk, spices, automobiles, marbles and granites, tea and coffee, alcoholic beverages, small scale industries and other products had shown increase during the period under review. Import of edible oil decreased from Rs 3,327.86 crore in April-July 2004 to Rs 2,381.67 crore. While the import of crude oil had gone up by 4.6 per cent, the import of refined oil had gone down by 73 per cent.
