Chinese cos in bid to supply machinery for NTC

Our Bureau

Coimbatore , Oct. 8

AMONG the textile machinery suppliers who have responded to the global tenders floated by the National Textile Corporation (NTC) for supply of machinery are Chinese manufacturers. The NTC management recently opened the technical bids for all the 22 textile mills under its fold that are slated for modernisation.

NTC, which had proposed to revamp and restart 15 textile mills in the first phase, is also considering adding seven more viable textile units under its early revamp programme.

The modernisation/revamp of the 22 units is estimated to cost Rs 550 crore. The first phase of modernisation involving the 15 units would entail a machinery buyout to the tune of Rs 300 crore.

According to Mr Sudripta Roy, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, the NTC national holding company wants to complete the financial bidding by next month. The machinery purchase would be finalised by November-end for the 15 units.

Talking to presspersons at the sidelines of a technological conference of South India Textile Research Association here, he said NTC authorities would also be floating tenders next month for the revival of 30 other mills under the joint venture route.
