Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy

Hyderabad , Oct. 9

THE Chief Minister, Dr Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy, on Sunday announced that a State-level conference of the newly elected chiefs of municipalities and corporations will be held in Hyderabad next month.

This is aimed at briefing them about the ongoing developmental activities and the strategy to take this forward and achieve good results. Necessary training would be imparted in this regard, for the benefit of the people.

Enthused by the national recognition at the two-day conclave of Chief Ministers held at Chandigarh, Dr Reddy, in a statement, said that the Government machinery will re-dedicate itself to continue the `Maha Yajnam' till 100 per cent results were achieved.

The concerted effort would cover irrigation, power, industry, housing, women empowerment, public distribution system and infrastructure development in both rural and urban areas.

On his return from Chandigarh, the Chief Minister said that for the first time other States were advised by the UPA Chairman, Ms Sonia Gandhi, and the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, to emulate the AP model in irrigation, housing, agriculture and overall developmental approach. The Chief Minister said his counterparts in some States sought blueprints of some of the programmes being implemented in the State, particularly Jala Yajnam, which involves execution of major and medium projects at a cost of Rs 46,000 crore.

These would irrigate around 66 lakh acres besides stabilising 20 lakh acres and provide drinking water to 1.2-crore population apart from generating 1,700 MW of hydel power.

Within two years, the State expects to complete eight projects that would irrigate 16.58 lakh acres and augment 136 TMC of water.

The Government plans to link the Krishna and the Godavari rivers through the Indirasagar Project to enable rapid economic development of the State. The mass contact programmes Rajiv Palle Bata and Rajiv Nagara Bata, which served to redress people's grievances, came in for praise.
