Airlines Marketing - New Products & Services New baggage system at Colombo airport Our Bureau
Thiruvananthapuram , Oct. 13 SRILANKAN Airlines has introduced a new baggage management system at Colombo's Bandaranaike International Airport. According to a press release issued by the airline, the Ultratrax 8.0 `baggage reconciliation system' is one of the most modern systems in the world. It includes wireless, hand-held scanners and allows airline employees to pinpoint the exact location of any baggage at any time, the release added. The system can even be used on the airport's apron and the bags of transit passengers can be sent directly from one aircraft to another. Similarly, when a passenger is off-loaded, the system alerts airline officials and the passenger's baggage can be off-loaded immediately, the release explained. The new system will improve baggage delivery and reduce possible delays, said an official. Meanwhile, a new arrivals area, immigration area and duty-free complex have been constructed as part of the airport's ongoing expansion work, the release said. SriLankan Catering Ltd, a member of the SriLankan Airlines group, will soon commission a state-of-the-art flight kitchen at the airport, the release added.
