SSI body objects to industrial plots auction in Andhra Pradesh

Visakhapatnam , Oct. 13

THE Visakha Autonagar Small-Scale Industrialists' Welfare Association is opposed to the proposed auction of plots in the Autonagar Industrial Estate here on Friday.

The association is opposing the auction on the ground that it will deprive small entrepreneurs of an opportunity to get land for a unit competing with those who have the resources to bid in an open auction. It is also in "contravention of the process of clearing applications of entrepreneurs by the District Industries Centre (DIC) following a single window procedure."

At a press conference here on Thursday, Mr S. Ramanujam, President of the association, said the notification for Friday's auction of the 74 plots in more than 26 acres by the AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) appeared on October 7.

"The process hitherto followed for allotment of plots is that a potential entrepreneur submits a project report to the Industries Department for clearance. However, the APIIC notification does not ask for any such report and no pre-qualification norms have been fixed," Mr Ramanujam alleged.

About 30 to 40 per cent of the plots so far allotted for industrial units were lying vacant and attempts were being made to use them for other purposes, he said.

The issue had been taken to the notice of the APIIC Zonal Manager here and the District Collector.

On a complaint by the association, the APIIC had initiated measures to take back the land allotted and not used for industrial purposes, he added.
