Chennai , Oct. 13

SAE India will hold an international meet to focus on India's skills in automotive technology. The body is an affiliate of Society of Automotive Engineers International, headquartered in the US.

The three-day `Mobility Engineering' meet will feature brainstorming sessions and an exhibition and will focus on the theme `Technology for emerging markets — India opportunity'. The event is to be held in Chennai between October 23 and 25.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr R. Seshasayee, Chairman, Steering Committee, SAE India and Managing Director, Ashok Leyland, said that many companies in the West were looking to sourcing design services from India. "Design outsourcing could be the next big thing," he said. The technical papers to be presented at the conference are on a range of topics such as alternative fuel, automotive infotronics, safety engineering, emission control, off highway vehicle technology, thermal management and testing. There will be two panel discussions on: `The next major challenge in the automotive industry - Indian perspective,' and `Design and engineering services for the automotive industry - India: moving up the value chain?'
