Rubber falls sharply on panic selling by growers

SPOT rubber prices declined sharply on Saturday.

Hectic selling from growers and dealers hammered the prices as the arrivals to the village markets and main marketing centres enhanced considerably.

Buyers turned more cautious as sellers showed tendency to encash their stock before the prices fall after the present unexpected boom.

Sheet rubber closed extremely weak at Rs 66.75 a kg against Rs 68at Kottayam and Kochi respectively.

Rubber futures were better except for October delivery, which expired at Rs 67.70 against Rs 68.50 on Friday.

The November contract closed at Rs 65.40 (65.06), December at Rs 64.06 (63.46) and January contract at Rs 64.30 ( 63.65) per kg for RSS 4.

The transactions till mid session totalled at 2082 lots with 8 lots in October, 1419 lots in November, 327 lots in December and 328 lots in January .

The November delivery contract for RSS 4 closed at Rs 65.15 ( 65.58) a kg on MCX.

Physical prices (Rs a kg) were: RSS-4: 66.75 (68); RSS-5:64 (65); ungraded: 62 (63); ISNR 20: 63.25 (64) and latex 60% : 43.50 (44.50)
