Sports Info-Tech - Outsourcing Xansa gets F1 mandate for real-time analysis Our Bureau
Pune , Oct. 15 FORMULA One fans, whose excitement stems from cars zooming on the tracks, can now see a better performance when the offshore analysis of the UK-based Xansa is put in place. The company, which is engaged in business process and IT services, is all set to cater to Formula One requirements. The company has entered into anagreement with the Renault team for offshore analysis in real time. Announcing this, Mr Alistair Cox, CEO of Xansa Plc, said the analysis would help the engineers fine-tune the vehicles, be it the engine or suspension or even the aerodynamics - all real time. For this, a team of 12 engineers from the Noida facility and a couple of engineers on site have already begun work. Mr Cox said the analysis would compute close to two million instructions per second and send back instructions to the engineers or mechanics on site. This would help them innovate and get relevant information on time, he added. "This is the first of its kind to my knowledge." This would not be restricted to the UK alone as Formula One usually does its rounds across the globe. This analysis is not restricted to only to Formula One either, but can be leveraged to other segments such as engineering and data analysis for the finance segment, he added. Mr Cox said that Xansa had performed the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the second facility in Pune. The new facility, spanning more than 55,000 sq ft, would have a seating capacity of over 600. The new facility would become operational by May 2006. Mr Saurabh Srivastava, Executive Chairman, Xansa India, said the company was planning to increase its headcount in India by four-fold to 10,000 within the next three years. He added that the Pune facility, which currently houses around 1,000 people, would be the major driver for the growth of the company in India, with the headcount increasing to 3,500 by this period. Xansa has presence in Chennai and Noida. Chennai takes care of the insurance segment and parts of finance and accounting services. The Noida centre is engaged in retail, utilities, and parts of banking, while that in Pune is busy with banking, telecom, and finance and accounting services. Expansion of the Chennai facility is also on; the total investment for both the expansions would be to the tune of Rs 50 crore. In the first phase of the company's operational set-up, an investment of Rs 160 crore was made.
