Vanishing companies

The Ministry of Company Affairs has done the investing public a great service by publishing a detailed list of vanishing companies in the newspapers. A question that arises is whether independent directors of such companies are punishable too? After all, independent directors join the concerned companies in good faith. Besides, do they have control over the promoter directors? I, therefore, think it fit that the Government punishes only the promoter directors and goes easy on such independent directors who had the misfortune of being on the boards of vanishing companies.
