RITES report on modernisation

Our Bureau

RAIL India Technical & Economic Services (RITES) is currently engaged in preparation of reports as to how to modernise the railway stations in four metros, namely, Chennai, Mumbai, New Delhi, and Howrah (Kolkata).

The Indian Railways, which is set to face stiff competition from the airlines and the road sector, is mulling upgrading facilities at these major railways stations to the world-class level.

The platforms will be used by passengers only for boarding the trains and alighting from them while the other facilities will be provided at other places, something on the line of international airports, according to Railways sources.
