Coonoor tea trade volumes slip

P.S. Sundar

Coonoor , Oct 27

FOR the fourth week consecutively, the volume offered for sale at the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) this weekend will be lower than the previous week.

This week, only 9.83 lakh kgs have been catalogued, whereas last week, 9.98 lakh kgs were offered for sale.

This week's volume will be the lowest of the last seven months. The previous low was on March 11 when 9.66 lakh kgs was offered for sale.

Of the 9.83 lakh kgs catalogued for this week, as much as 7.1 lakh kgs belong to the leaf grades and the balance 2.73 lakh kgs, the dust grades.

Again, as much as 8.97 lakh kgs belong to the CTC variety and the balance 0.86 lakh kgs alone belong to the orthodox variety.

The low volume on offer is said to be the outcome of the market correcting itself by getting rid of the low quality teas.
