Events Mukesh to IIMB students: We have to run faster to meet challenges Our Bureau
Bangalore , Oct. 29 THE Indian Space Research Organisation Chairman, Mr G. Madhavan Nair, has urged the students of the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, to have a vision for themselves that will ultimately become the vision for the country. Delivering the 32nd Foundation Day Lecture here on Saturday, he said by 2015, India will have the largest young scientific and technical manpower talent pool and that "it should be used effectively." Mr Mukesh Ambani, Chairman, Reliance Industries, who had recently taken over as the Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIMB, inaugurated Vista 2005, the institute's annual management fest. Addressing students here, he asked them to live by spirit of the institute and make it the best management institute in the continent. He felt that opportunities for young people today were unlimited, unlike 25 years ago when he started his career. "There is excitement in the air, that does not mean that the path ahead is easy. There are challenges everywhere and we have to run faster.'' He asked the students to develop a global mindset and agility to work in virtual organisations. "The future is glorious and there is a revolution of unabated optimism," he said. He is optimistic that India would overtake China in terms of GDP and this is a historical time for the country Mr Ambani congratulated Mr Nair and the ISRO for having made space science relevant to the common citizen.

THE Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, has set the lead by announcing a fee hike for the 2007 batch. Will IIMB follow suit? Dr Prakash G. Apte, Director, IIMB, told Business Line that a decision will be taken when the directors meet soon, though the matter was not discussed when Mr Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIMB, was here on Friday. Mr Ambani merely said that he was here to familiarise himself with the institute and the students.
