Coonoor tea prices up on low volumes

PRICES improved by Rs 2 a kg at the Coonoor Tea Trade Association auctions here on Friday with the volumes offered dipping to a seven-month low of 9.83 lakh kg.

Exporters lent useful support that activated the overall demand. Consequently, the prices, which had hovered at Rs 20 a kg in the recent months and improved to Rs 22 in the recent weeks, rose this week to Rs 24.

Pakistan buyers picked up the smaller grades for a wide range of Rs 28-38 a kg. Iraqi buyers paid Rs 25-30. Some lines were bought for Rs 34 as well. The shippers to CIS bought bolder grades paying up to Rs 26. For the dust teas, the bids ranged Rs 24-26 for the plain grades and Rs 52-58 for the bright liquoring grades.
