10,000-mark achieved on Diwali eve!

Jogin sat sombrely watching the TV coverage of blast aftermath. Sridevi tried to analyse the impact of disasters on financial markets. Dakshinamoorthy prayed a bit too hard at a nearby mandir for peace. Khan worked by the clock and drew them all in for the weekly chat about markets. Step in!

**

Kay: It's Diwali time but nobody seems to be happy! :-(

Dax: Because of tragedies one after the other. "Violence assails us."

Sri : As in Othello! Sorrow in the market too! All have lost money.

Jog: However, one thing has happened as expected by several traders.

Kay: What's that?

Jog: 10,000 mark has been achieved on Diwali eve!

Sri : But how?

Dax: Closing value of BSE Sensex 7,686 + Nifty 2,316 = 10,002! Hurrah!

Kay: A good one! :-)

Sri : Yet, this week will be a lacklustre one.

Dax: Because just two full trading session will be there.

Jog: So don't expect any major movement on either side.

Kay: Just wait and watch the market.

Sri : Remember, cash in hand is better than two stocks in your portfolio.

Jog: "My food, my fortune and my sweet hope," The Comedy of Errors!

Dax: Further weakness is possible and the next level for Sensex is 7,500.

Kay: Chart patterns indicate corrective phase is not yet complete.

Sri : Indifferent earnings numbers from large-cap stocks...

Jog: Hmm... Sure recipe, that is, for a weak trend. Last week kya hua?

Dax: Last Monday Mawana Sugar gained 7.73 per cent.

Kay: Karur Vysya made almost 3 per cent. KLG Systel was up 2 plus.

Jog: Apollo Hospitals and ACC earned a gain of 0.6 per cent each.

Sri : P&G managed to stay positive on October 24. This week?

Kay: There is no stock recommendation for this week also.

Sri : Are you saying, 'Just relax this week and enjoy Diwali?'

Dax: Have a cracking celebration with crackers and not stocks?

Sri : "So tedious is this day as is the night before some festival to an impatient child that hath new robes and may not wear them." :-|

Dax: As the Bard writes in Romeo and Juliet!

Jog: I think stocks of hotel companies may rule weak…

Kay: On concerns from the terrorist attacks in Delhi. How sad!

Dax: "An eye-sore to our solemn festival!" as in The Taming of the Shrew.

Sri : Madras Cements, Andhra Sugars & Seshasayee Paper to rule firm.

Jog: On impressive earnings numbers, I'd say!

Dax: Interim dividend proposed by Madras Cements may aid sentiment.

Sri : Hindustan Construction may show some weakness.

Jog: Exploding one-time earning! The company appears to be in the red?

Dax: "Take care to get what you like or you will be forced to like what you get," cautions George Bernard Shaw.

Kay: Navbharat Ferro Alloy likely to show a decline due to poor numbers.

Jog: Market may not take kindly to the diversification into infrastructure.

Sri : How many new channels has Zee introduced recently? Koi?

Kay: Quite a number, say some.

Dax: "The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune," as in Hamlet?

Jog: The company is said to have rolled out ambitious expansion plans.

Dax: Including those involving regional markets. Trading at about Rs 140.

Sri : A good Rs 60 down from its 52-week high! West Coast Paper?

Jog: Of Bangur group. Quoting at around Rs 302, down from Rs 314.

Kay: Paper stocks, say marketmen, will see some movements...

Jog: As the industry is going through a positive cycle.

Sri : Paper companies have already seen an upsurge?

Dax: Many are increasing production capacity and considering capex.

Sri : "Were my fortunes equal to my desires, I could wish to make one there," as Pericles, Prince of Tyre would say!

Jog: West Coast is a low-volume stock. Promoters have a good holding!

Sri : A.K. Capital, a BSE-listed venture. Familiar to debt placement arena.

Kay: The small-cap stock (Rs 50) has gained well from the recent penchant for such small-cap (and even little-known?) outfits.

Jog: Target audience for AK Cap is said to be alive and kicking…

Dax: A fact we have ignored because of our overbearing interest in equity!

Kay: Despite "an act of tragic violence," as in King Richard III...

Sri : Come, temperate nymphs, and help to celebrate, as in The Tempest.
