Govt `deeply concerned' about Volcker report

THE Government on Thursday said that it is "deeply concerned about the unverified references" made about Congress party and the External Affairs Minister, Mr Natwar Singh, in the Volcker report on corruption in a UN aid programme in Iraq.

The report by former US Federal Reserve Chairman, Mr Paul Volcker, had named Mr Singh as a possible beneficiary in the UN oil-for-food programme that was designed to allow Saddam Hussein to sell oil to buy food, medicine, and other goods.
