New Delhi , Nov. 4

THE Government has given a Diwali gift to over a million handloom weavers and allied workers by launching a health insurance scheme.

The scheme, introduced by the Development Commissioner of Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, will give more than 1.2 million handloom weavers and allied workers medical cover.

For a contribution of Rs 200 by the weaver, he, his spouse and two children will be covered for Rs 15,000 while the DC (Handloom) will bear the remaining premium contribution of Rs 800. The scheme is developed and implemented by ICICI Lombard. ``The health insurance scheme is extremely comprehensive and covers pre-existing diseases too," the Textile Minister, Mr Shankersinh Vaghela, said at the launch of the scheme.
