Chennai , Nov. 5

INTERNATIONAL Travel House (ITH) has started promoting European river cruises in India. River cruises are the new preference in Europe, according to the company's Managing Director, Mr Anil Bhandari.

This is an interesting option to coach tours and an alternative to those who have experienced sea cruises. On a river cruise, a passenger gets a room with all the amenities on board and the chance to stay within mainland Europe while touring.

Mr Bhandari said ITH has also been appointed as the general sales agent of Globus-Cosmos for marketing its holiday packages in India.

The company's turnover in the half-year ended September 2005 was Rs 239.57 crore against Rs 190.98 crore during the same period last year, showing a growth of 25.4 per cent.

Profit after tax rose by 47.3 per cent to Rs 3.24 crore (Rs 2.20 crore).

Car rentals biz up: Mr Bhandari said the growth has come not just from the increase in domestic and international travel but also from a better performance by car rentals. Car rental revenue has grown by 80 per cent in the six months compared to the same period last year.

ITH is in the process of acquiring around 100 more cars of different brands to augment the present fleet size of more than 450 cars across the country. An indigenous integrated technology platform has beenoperational to support both front-end and back office systems.

The company has extended its offices in Mumbai and Bangalore.
