Fair demand at Kochi tea sale

A FAIR general demand persisted for almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction.

Of the 12,08,000 kg on offer in the dust category, market for CTC's were barely steady to easier by Rs 2-3. Orthodox grade highgrowns remained steady, while mediums were dearer.

As per the figures made available with Forbes, Ewart and Figgis Pvt Ltd, the best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 50-65, medium CTC realised Rs 42-45 and below medium were quoted Rs 20-25. Highgrown BOPD fetched prices between Rs 80-102, while medium BOPD realised Rs 34-40. Secondaries were quoted at Rs 22-25.

A fair general demand was also witnessed at the leaf sale and the quantity on offer was 4,20,000 kg. High-priced orthodox grades tended to ease by Rs 2-4. Mediums and secondaries were steady while, CTC's were barely steady to easier by Re 1-2. Mediums and secondary orthodox witnessed good demand from exporters to Iraq. CIS exporters were very selective.

The best Nilgiri varieties commanded prices between Rs 47-63, medium orthodox realised Rs 38-48. The best CTC leaf fetched prices between Rs 37-42, while medium CTC leaf realised Rs 32-34.

In the dust category, Kodanaad Cl.BOPD fetched the best prices of Rs 102, followed by Pasuparai FD by Rs 99. In the leaf varieties, Chamraj OP realised the best prices of Rs 103.25 followed by Havukal BOPF by Rs 96.
